Murtha Should Forward the Memo to...

Despite surprising omissions recently by the New York Times and war critic Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) that the troop surge in Iraq is making progress, other Democrats are taking their time in joining reality.  For instance, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said today, "The surge hasn't accomplished its goals... We're involved, still, in an intractable civil war."

Ignorant, Dishonest, or Malicious?  You decide...

Neo Nazis Now More 'Seeker Friendly'

A white-supremacist, anti-Semitic group, which has dubbed themselves "The United Church of YHWH," has decided to ban neo-Nazi imagery in their "services" in an effort to reach out to more people:

"The group banned the use of Nazi uniforms, red arm bands and similar regalia because they were an instant turnoff to people who might otherwise be open to the church's teachings..."

Well isn't that nice... You know for me, it's not their heretical theology or hateful ideology that keeps me from joining... it's those pesky swastikas that they wear on their arms (please note the sarcasm employed here).

By the way, YHWH is derived from the Hebrew word Yahweh, which is one of the many names used in the Old Testament to address a Holy God.  Does anyone else find it ironic that an anti-Semitic organization would use a Hebrew word in their group's name?

Well, maybe it's not so much irony as it is just pure ignorance...

Murtha Finally Got the Memo!

Last week, I wrote an article on this blog entitled "Murtha Missed the Memo?" (a post that was linked to from both the Washington Times and Wall Street Journal websites).  Basically, the BCC post questions how, when even the biased New York Times is reporting good news in IraqCongressman John Murtha (D-PA) could still be declaring, "We can't win militarily."

Well, the memo apparently just arrived on Murtha's desk.  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting today that Murtha is now changing his tune, conceding this week, "I think the surge is working."  Cliff May of National Review reports that Murtha was "most encouraged by changes in the once-volatile Anbar province, where locals have started working closely with U.S. forces to isolate insurgents linked to Al Qaeda."  No word yet on whether Murtha plans to apologize to our men and women in uniform for doubting their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice.

I'm not holding my breath... he hasn't even apologized for falsely accusing them of war crimes at Haditha...

Dems Cancel Couric CBS Debate

It looks like the Democratic National Committee will cancel its final presidential debate because of the strike by the Writers Guild of America.  The debate is currently scheduled to take place on December 10th  in Los Angeles, and is to be moderated by CBS's Katie Couric.  At first I found the news humorous.  Poor Katie's writers are on the picket line and she can't come up with any questions on her own... but that's obviously not the case.

In reality, the Dems just don't want to offend the unions.  That's typical of DNC politics.  They make decisions that appease their special interest groups (unions, in this case), and it's the American people who ultimately lose out.

On an interesting side note, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) was the first candidate to say that she would not participate if the CBS writers decid to strike.

Well of course not... she's been getting smoked in the debates!  Can you say driver's licenses for illegal immigrants?

One Honest Anti-War Liberal

John Bruhns, an Iraq veteran and anti-war activist, is speaking out about his former employer Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (AAEI), which is described as "a coalition of liberal groups, including MoveOn.org and unions."  Here is what Bruhns, accusing AAEI of hypocrisy, partisanship, and dirty tactics, had to say regarding his departure from the group:

"The war is used by these organizations as ammunition against political foes - primarily Republicans. They are the enemy despite the fact that many Democrats vote the same way."

And:

“Our troops are still being killed on a daily basis, and the main agenda of these well-financed anti-war groups, I think, is nothing short of the prolonged character assassination of all those who disagree with their message.”

Wow... color me surprised.  Liberals engaging in dirty political tactics, such as character assassination, in order to achieve their partisan goals.  Who would have ever thought?

Dick Morris for Huckabee?

Bob Novak, and a few other commentators, have recently written articles questioning the fiscally-conservative credentials of presidential hopeful Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR).

Apparently, Dick Morris begs to differ... As do Iowans...

UN's Valiant Struggle Against Global Warming

This is perhaps the most entertaining thing I've read today...

U.N. bureaucrats, in their valiant struggle against the perils of global warming and the evil rich people who cause it, will be meeting in Bali from December 3-15.  The only problem is that managers at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport are not sure they will be able to handle the large number of
private jets that will be transporting those attending the summit.

T
heir best solution right now is to fly into Bali to drop off attendees, fly empty to another airport to park the plane for two weeks, fly empty back to Bali to pick up attendees at the end of the conference and then finally fly them home.  Now, I'm no expert, but I think that would give any one UNFCCC attendee a larger carbon footprint from this one meeting than I will muster in an entire year!

Still, I'm guessing they will conclude the meeting with some non-binding statement about SUV's and cow flatulence (remember, we need to be drinking rat's milk) before jumping on their cushy personal aircraft to fly home.

Yeah... they seem really concerned about that nasty carbon and the imminent Armageddon that our emissions will inevitably precipitate, don't they?!

What a scam...

Murtha Missed the Memo?

I never thought I'd say this, but Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) needs to read the New York Times!  Murtha is still declaring, "We can't win militarily" in Iraq.  Ironically the Times, the same newspaper that gave MoveOn.org a discounted rate on a full-page ad calling General Petraeus as a traitor for telling us that is situation in Iraq is getting better, is now telling us that the situation in Iraq is getting better!

"The security improvements in most neighborhoods are real. Days now pass without a car bomb, after a high of 44 in the city in February. The number of bodies appearing on Baghdad’s streets has plummeted to about 5 a day, from as many as 35 eight months ago, and suicide bombings across Iraq fell to 16 in October, half the number of last summer and down sharply from a recent peak of 59 in March, the American military says.

"As a result, for the first time in nearly two years, people are moving with freedom around much of this city. In more than 50 interviews across Baghdad, it became clear that while there were still no-go zones, more Iraqis now drive between Sunni and Shiite areas for work, shopping or school, a few even after dark. In the most stable neighborhoods of Baghdad, some secular women are also dressing as they wish. Wedding bands are playing in public again, and at a handful of once shuttered liquor stores customers now line up outside in a collective rebuke to religious vigilantes from the Shiite Mahdi Army.

"Iraqis are clearly surprised and relieved to see commerce and movement finally increase, five months after an extra 30,000 American troops arrived in the country."

Rep. Murtha, it sounds to me like our troops are winning militarily, and if you and your party weren't so heavily invested in defeat, maybe you could give them the credit that their hard work and sacrifice has earned...

How Does One Milk a Rat?

Don't you just love these Vegan/Environmentalist types? Heather Mills, whose only claim to fame is that she married a Beatle (Sir Paul McCartney) and is now trying to take a large portion of his fortune in a messy divorce, is putting her many gifts and skills toward saving the world. After storming out of a radio interview this morning, Mills jumped into her Mercedes 4x4 (gas guzzler!) and went to Hyde Park where she exhorted the assembled masses to drink "rat's milk" in order to stop global warming. I bet that generated some interesting conversation (compliments of the movie "Meet the Parents").

I'd be interested to know if Heather has actually milked any rats, or if she's been too busy trying to milk a Beatle...

Mark Dean Schwab Gets Temporary Stay

I've posted about this pervert before.  Well, he's in the news again, and this time he has actually received a stay on his death sentence from the U.S. Supreme Court (though not for the reasons his attorney initially argued).  Hopefully the stay will only be temporary though.  Any man who rapes and murders a child has earned the death penalty.

Driven to Common Sense (Update)

How's this for a crazy "coincidence?"  The very same day that Gov. Elliott Spitzer (D-NY) dropped his plan to give licenses to illegal aliens, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) finally gave a straight answer on the issue.  Even though she told us before that the plan "makes a lot of sense," Hillary has now clarified that she is opposed to the plan.  Now why didn't she just say that during the debate?

I thought Bill Burton, spokesman for Clinton rival Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) had a great response to Hillary's new-found opposition to the plan:  “When it takes two weeks and six different positions to answer one question on immigration, it’s easier to understand why the Clinton campaign would rather plant their questions than answer them.”

Well said!
