Iowa and New Hampshire Still Matter

Despite attempts by other states to front-load the presidential primary process and steal some thunder from Iowa and New Hampshire, the winners of those two states are the only four candidates still standing in the battle for their respective partys' nominations.  Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark) and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) won Iowa and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) and Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) won New Hampshire.

Yes... Iowa and New Hampshire still matter.

Pelosi Calls Surge 'Failure;' Al Qaeda Disagrees

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) has again called the Iraq surge "a failure." Pelosi needs to read a letter written by an al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu-Tariq to top terror leaders proclaiming the organization to be in "extraordinary crisis," and how the the defection of Sunnis to fight with the U.S. military has "created panic, fear, and the unwillingness to fight."

How is that not, as Pelosi claims, "the desired effect?"

Dr. Dobson's Endorsement... A Little Late

Focus on the Family founder, Dr. James Dobson, has finally endorsed former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee.  It's a little late, since the nomination is all but decided and the only question now is who Sen. McCain will choose for his running mate... Here's the text of his endorsement anyway:

I am endorsing Gov. Mike Huckabee for President of the United States today. My decision comes in the wake of my statement on Super Tuesday that I could not vote for Sen. John McCain, even if he goes on to win the Republican nomination. His record on the institution of the family and other conservative issues makes his candidacy a matter of conscience and concern for me.

That left two pro-family candidates whom I could support, but I was reluctant to choose between them. However, the decision by Gov. Mitt Romney to put his campaign "on hold" changes the political landscape. The remaining candidate for whom I could vote is Gov. Huckabee. His unwavering positions on the social issues, notably the institution of marriage, the importance of faith and the sanctity of human life, resonate deeply with me and with many others. That is why I will support Gov. Huckabee through the remaining primaries, and will vote for him in the general election if he should get the nomination. Obviously, the governor faces an uphill struggle, given the delegates already committed to Sen. McCain. Nevertheless, I believe he is our best remaining choice for President of the United States.

Yawn... He should have done this in December when it might have made a difference...

Jail the Warming Skeptics!

Global Warming cultist David Suzuki advocated last Thursday that world leaders who don't believe the infallible, truth-by-"consensus" science of man-made global warming should be imprisoned.

"What I would challenge you to do is to put a lot of effort into trying to see whether there's a legal way of throwing our so-called leaders into jail because what they're doing is a criminal act... It's an intergenerational crime in the face of all the knowledge and science from over 20 years."

A spokesman for Suzuki is already back pedaling, claiming he did not mean for this to be taken literally... I guess I don't know how else it could be taken.  You either believe as he does or get thrown in prison.  Thank you open-minded Liberals...

Typical with the warming crowd though.  Their science has always been so shaky that they have to find a way to silence legitimate disagreement rather than debate it.

Can We Close the Border Now?

A new report shows that "organized, well-financed and violent Mexican kidnapping cells are targeting a growing number of U.S. citizens..."  I realize that all of the kidnappings so far have taken place South of the border, but what is to stop these animals from coming here and taking victims back to Mexico?  The answer is nothing.

Now can we close the border?!

McCain-Gingrich?

Now that Super Tuesday is behind us, and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) looks more and more likely to be the eventual Republican nominee, pressure is rising for the McCain camp to consider a solidly Conservative running mate to balance the ticket.

Huckabee does not foot the bill as he is not someone who is considered a pure conservative, though he may have enough delegates to secure a nice cabinet post come Convention time (maybe Secretary of Health and Human Services or even Secretary of  Housing and Urban Development).

Romney's a fake, and his back and forth jabs with McCain will not soon be forgotten.  I wouldn't expect any concessions from McCain at Convention.  Besides, he's a pretty recent convert to the Conservative cause anyway.

Whiles some names are being bounced around, such as Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif) and Governor Mark Sanford (R-SC), I think the most beneficial Conservative name to add to a McCain ticket would be former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA).

Gingrich is not currenly planning to endorse McCain, but he's been pretty friendly with him the last few days... we'll see if anything comes of my little theory here.

Huckabee Wins West Virginia!

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has won West Virginia's winner-take-all Republican primary.  That gives Huckabee more wins in contested states than his chief rival, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.  It is Huckabee's first win since he trounced the competition in Iowa's first-in-the-nation Caucuses.  It wasn't evangelicals that won it for him either, so we'll see how the Romney apologists will spin this one.

He will add the 18 delegates to his total, putting him closely behind Romney for second place, as they both seek to chase down Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) for the nomination.

It appears that reports of the death of the Huckabee's campaign have been greatly exaggerated!

Romney Continues to Spend Spend Spend, But...

Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-Mass) has spent more money on television adds than all other GOP presidential candidates combined!  That gets me thinking... all that money spent, and he only has one victory in a contested state, Michigan, which is the state where he grew up, and where his own father served as governor.  His other victories - Wyoming, Nevada, and Maine - were in states where no other candidates even campaigned.  In contested states, he consistently finishes second place.

Conservatives who are trying to rally the movement around this new convert need to keep in mind that second place doesn't fly in general elections.

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark) is still a viable, electable Conservative candidate, who has as many wins in contested states as Mitt Romney... One.  Like Romney, he's not perfect, but he's been able to gain a lot of support on a very meager budget.  Give him another look on Super Tuesday...

Hillary Will Garnish Wages

Sen. Hillary Clinton said this weekend that she would be willing to garnish the wages of people who refuse to purchase healthcare as a way to ensure that everyone is covered... whether they want to be or not!  How's that for freedom?

Is it any wonder that Clinton is believed to be the only presidential candidate who can unite Republicans?  Romney and McCain sure don't get it done...

Dem Congress Pays $89,000 for 'Carbon Offsets'

The Democrat-controlled Congress has wasted $89,000 of our taxes to pay for "carbon offsets" in order to "compensate for the possible pollution that members of Congress contribute to the environment."

What a waste...

Sen. Specter Advocates Government Intrusion

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) has now written NFL commissioner Roger Goodell twice, demanding an explanation as to why the "Spygate" tapes, which the New England Patriots coaches filmed in order to steal signals from opposing teams, were destroyed.

Doesn't our country face more important issues such as the constant threat of global jihad or entitlement programs that will utterly bankrupt this nation in my lifetime?  How does enforcing NFL rules fall under the constitutional jurisdiction of Sen. Specter and the U.S. government?

It doesn't... Specter should back off and butt out.

Edwards and Giuliani Drop Out

Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) has dropped his bid for the Republican presidential nomination after a poor showing in Iowa and is throwing his support behind Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz).  I think he's aiming to be attorney general in a McCain administration.  He's worked for the Justice Department before.

Former Sen. John Edwards also dropped his bid for the Democratic nomination.  I think he'd also like to be attorney general, but he doesn't have the courage to endorse another candidate until he knows who is going to win.  In the meantime, he'll probably go back to making millions of dollars working for hedge funds and other capitalist ventures that he only seems to despise when he's trying to get elected President.

Remember, John Edwards is the Socialist who happens to like Capitalism when his own name is on the check.
