Dems Betray Petraeus

It's the story that just won't go away... The ad run in the New York Times by ultra left-wing activists at MoveOn.org accusing General David Petraeus of being a traitor, deeming him "General Betray Us" (wow, they're sure clever when it comes to rhyming, eh?).  That's the same MoveOn.org that claims that they have "bought" the Democrat Party.

Apparently 25 liberal senators agree, as they voted against a Senate resolution condemning the add.  It passed anyway, 72-25, but among the "purchased" dissenters were Democrat presidential contenders, Hillary Clinton and Chris Dodd.  And Barack Obama, even though he was present, didn't vote at all (how's that for decisive leadership?).

Here's a list of the cowards who refused to stand up to George Soros and the MoveOn nuts.  Is it any wonder they don't have the guts to fight Islamo-fascists either?

Neys: Akaka (D-HI), Bingaman (D-NM), Boxer (D-CA), Brown (D-OH), Byrd (D-WV), Clinton (D-NY), Dodd (D-CT), Durbin (D-IL), Feingold (D-CA), Harkin (D-IA), Inouye (D-HI), Kennedy (D-MA), Kerry (D-MA), Lautenberg (D-NJ), Levin (D-MI), Menendez (D-NJ), Murray (D-WA), Reed (D-RI), Reid (D-NV), Rockefeller (D-WV), Sanders (I-VT), Schumer (D-NY), Stabenow (D-MI), Whitehouse (D-RI), Wyden (D-OR)

Conveniently not voting: Biden (D-DE), Cantwell (D-WA), Obama (D-IL)

Notice there is not a single "R" on either list...

Ahmadinejad Disapointed

Despite his invitation to speak at Columbia University, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is disappointed.  Why?  Because New York officials denied his request to receive an official escort to tour the World Trade Center site.  Ahmadinejad, the head of a government which funds, trains, and equips Sunni and Shia terrorists the world over (Hamas, Hizbullah, and al Qaeda in Iraq to name a few) was hoping to lay a wreath in honor of those who died, though he didn't specify whether he was honoring the New York victims or the Muslim hijackers...

The U.N. deemed the rejection "unfortunate."  Typical...

Free Speech, Columbia-Style

Fortunately, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will not be visiting Ground Zero on his trip to New York.  He will be speaking at Columbia University though...

Dean of the Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs defended the decision saying, "Opportunities to hear, challenge, and learn from controversial speakers of different views are central to the education and training of students for citizenship in a shrinking and still dangerous world."

Apparently the opportunity to "hear, challenge, and learn from controversial speakers" only applies to Islamo-fascist dictators and not to controversial American conservatives, as Columbia's Political Union voted this past Monday to cancel a speaking appearance by "Minuteman Project" (an anti-illegal immigration group) founder, Jim Gilchrist.  They prevented him from speaking at the University last year, too, but that only because a bunch of liberal students violently rushed the stage just as Gilchrist was about to start his speech, and he had to be whisked away for his own safety.

So, just to review... Islamo-fascist dictator arming, training, and funding terrorists around the world as well as fighting a proxy war against the U.S in Iraq- PLESAE STOP BY AND SPEW YOUR ANTI-BUSH HATRED TO OUR STUDENTS.  American citizen who advocating that the U.S. government enforce its own immigration laws- CENSORED!

Don't you just love the Liberal establishment's commitment to "free speech?"

I Think He's 'Rather' Full Of It

It's being reported that Dan Rather, the 75-year-old former CBS anchor who was disgraced after trying to sway the 2004 election by running a false story about President George W. Bush's service in the National Guard, is suing his former employer.  That's right... He's complaining that after he was busted for running the bogus story (which he still claims is true... how's that for objective journalism?), the network did not give him ample time on the air.  He also claims that the internal CBS investigation was "biased," and therefore amounts to fraud which "seriously damaged his reputation."

While it's nice to hear Rather finally admit that CBS is biased, they're not the ones who "damaged his reputation."  When he ran a bogus, "unsubstantiated" story about the President of the United States just weeks before the vote to re-elect him, and still stands by the story years after it's been debunked, the damaged reputation is his own doing.

He's seeking $70 million anyway...

Secluded From Justice

Well, it looks like liberal judges are creating new and exciting precedents to protect despicable sex offenders.  In this case, a jury found Mitchell D. Pask (repeat sex offender) guilty of felony child enticement after he was arrested for trying to "lure a 9-year-old girl into a park shelter."  Then, only minutes after the jury delivered the verdict, judge Timothy Van Akkeren dismissed the case, ruling that a park shelter is not secluded enough for Pask to have sexual contact with the girl.

I bet it would have been secluded enough for him had he succeeded in getting the girl in there.

Outsource Our Security to the UN?

Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...

Former senator and current Democrat Presidential nominee John Edwards has some really great new ideas... we need an "international organization to fight terrorism."  In other words, let's outsource our security to the international community... Like the UN perhaps!

Sure, why not... the UN has already proved their willingness and competence to fight evil all over the world.  What a brilliant idea to put them, or a similar organization, in charge of our national security.

And why do we need to do this?  Edwards says, "We need a counterterrorism policy that will actually counter terrorism.  We've got to throw away the failed George Bush policies of the past, and move in a bold new direction."

Would these be the "failed George Bush policies" that have prevented another terror attack on American soil since 9/11?  I'm sure the UN would do much better though...

Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...

The suspense ended for good last night when Sen. Fred Thompson told Jay Leno and his "Tonight Show" audience, "I'm running for President of the United States.  It starts right now."  Then he followed it up with this video on his website, which outlines his position on many important issues facing our country... Don't miss it!

Why I Can't Vote for Romney

Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...

I've noted before my distrust of Mitt Romney due to the stark difference in what he said while running for office in Massachusetts verses what he says now.  This is a great collection illustrating his different positions, in his own words (mostly)...

Abortion rights:
"I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose and am devoted and dedicated to honoring my word in that regard."  Boston Herald Debate, 10/29/02

"Roe v. Wade continues to work its destructive logic throughout our society This can't continue."  Speech to the Massachusetts Citizens For Life Mother's Day Pioneer Valley Dinner, 5/10/07

Immigration reform:

"With these 11 million people [here illegally], let's have them registered, know who they are....those that are here paying taxes and not taking government benefits should begin a process towards application for citizenship."  Lowell Sun, 3/30/06

"One simple rule: no amnesty. If that [Kennedy-McCain bill] is not a form of amnesty, I don't know what is."  New York Times, 6/4/07

Gun laws:

"We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts; I support them. I won't chip away at them; I believe they protect us and provide for our safety."  Romney in 2002 Governor debate, Boston Globe, 1/14/07

"I have a gun of my own. I go hunting myself. I'm a member of the NRA and believe firmly in the right to bear arms."  Boston Globe, 1/14/07

Amendment to ban gay marriage:

"Mitt does not support it...As far as Mitt is concerned, it goes farther than current law, and therefore it's unnecessary."  Romney spokesman, Boston Globe, 3/22/02

"When I was Governor, we took every conceivable step within the law to stop, block or slow down this unprecedented court decision."  Speech to National Right to Life Convention, 6/15/07

"No new taxes" pledge:

"I'm not intending to, at this stage, sign a document which would prevent me from being able to look specifically at the revenue needs of the commonwealth"  Associated Press, 3/27/02

"Signing the pledge now sends a very clear message to those in Washington who have voted against tax relief and for tax hikes that such actions will never grow our regional and national economies."  Romney spokesman, Boston Globe, 1/5/07

Minimum wage:

"I think the minimum wage ought to keep pace with inflation. I think the minimum wage is a good thing to have in our economy and I think it ought to be updated."  Boston Globe, 10/17/94

"[T]he challenge with raising the minimum wage excessively is it is a hurt to those that are entering the work force, the very poor, those that are trying to get early jobs, get those first jobs."  Associated Press, 7/25/06

Cutting Social Security:

"I don't think you go back and rewrite the contract the government has with people who've retired."  Boston Globe, 10/17/94

"Personal accounts would be a big plus."  Union Leader, 6/7/07

Adoption non-discrimination:

Governor Mitt Romney and a legislative leader yesterday delivered unwelcome news to the Catholic bishops of Massachusetts, who plan to seek permission from the state to exclude gay and lesbian parents from adopting children through its social service agencies. The governor said he was not authorized to give such an exemption...  Boston Globe, 2/17/06

"And then another slide along the slippery slope. The Catholic Church was forced to end its adoption service, which was crucial in helping the state find homes for some of our most difficult to place children... Now, even religious freedom was being trumped by the new-found 'right' of gay marriage."  Speech to National Right to Life Convention, 6/15/07

Stem cell research:

"I am in favor of stem cell research. I will work and fight for stem cell research. I'd be happy to talk to [President Bush] about this, though I don't know if I could budge him an inch."  Boston Globe, 6/14/02

"FACT: Governor Romney Opposes Using Taxpayer Money to Fund Embryo-Destructive Research."  MittRomney.com A Record of Protecting Life

Reagan Republicanism:

"I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush."  Boston Herald, 10/27/94

"Ronald Reagan is ... my hero. ... I believe that our party's ascendancy began with Ronald Reagan's brand of visionary and courageous leadership."  Boston Globe, 1/19/07

Desire to serve in Vietnam:

"I was not planning on signing up for the military. It was not my desire to go off and serve in Vietnam..."  Boston Herald, 5/2/94

"I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam."  Boston Globe, 6/24/07

Freedom From Choice

Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...

Democratic Presidential hopeful John Edwards was honest enough to tell us that under his universal healthcare plan, "you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years.  You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."  In other words, your government will be relieving you of your choice of whether or not to get a check-up.  What he doesn't tell you is that under his plan, your government will be relieving you of every choice regarding your healthcare.

"Age-Appropriate" Education?

Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...

Well I've got some good news and some bad news.  The good news is that the Evesham (PA) school board voted last night to stop showing an "educational" video which depicts "families headed by same-sex couples."  The bad news is that someone thought it was a good idea to show this video to third graders in the first place!  In addition, the school board actually voted against a committee of "scholars and educators" who recommended keeping the video, but showing it to fourth graders instead.

I wonder if this is what Senator Obama had in mind when he said that sex education for kindergarteners is "the right thing to do," as long as it's "age appropriate."  And remember, he concluded that what is "age appropriate" would be "determined on a case by case basis by local communities and local school boards."  Well, the Evesham school board got it right, but I don't have the same faith that all other ones will as well.  By the way, what's wrong with simply teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic in public schools these days?

Now, of course, homosexual activists are not going to let their propaganda be removed from gradeschool classrooms by elected officials without a court fight.  They just need one judge willing to ignore the will of the people and usurp the power of elected officials, and overrule the vote.  One such activist, Steven Goldstein said, "It's very likely that we in the civil rights community wil take legal action to have the committee's recommendation to show this film enforced.  We believe the board's actions are illegal."  If it wasn't so sad, it would almost be funny.

Our self-proclaimed "civil rights" activist is claiming that an unelected committee's decision is binding, but a school board's vote on what curriculum should be taught in their district is "illegal?"

Perhaps Goldstein is the one who needs an education... in government.

Iowa "Marriage" Redefined

Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...

It's official... "Marriage" has a new definition here in Iowa...

Iowa Joins Massachusetts

Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...

Well, it's official.  Iowa has just joined Massachusetts as the only other state in the Union which allows gay "marriage."  Of course, the definition of marriage was not changed by the state legislature and governor.  No state has taken that step with marriage.  But like Massachusetts, it was a judge that has done it... Big surprise.

Democrats in Iowa have consistently fought against an Iowa Constitutional Marriage Amendment, saying it is not needed.  In reality, all they have done is set the stage for a judge to make the decision for them... and that's exactly what has happened today.  Are they blind?  Or was this an intentional strategy by Democrats to implement a radical change in Iowa's "marriage" policy by simply leaving the door open for the courts to do it?

Seriously... Why would a liberal politician in a moderate state vote yes on gay "marriage" and get voted out of office, when you can just have a judge do the dirty work and get the same result for their extremist base?

Decency = Hate???

Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...

Since when does telling people that they can't have sex in a public bathroom qualify as "hate speech?"  Since when does trying to evict pornographic material from a public library equate to "demonizing" a group of people?

Well, let's ask the mayor of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Jim Naugle (a Democrat).  Apparently, Naugle went too far when he said the city needed to crack down on sex in public bathrooms, and to say that gay and lesbian literature, some of which includes "adult material" (read: pornography), should not be housed in a public library.  That seems pretty fair to me.

But of course, there is a huge uproar over his "hate."  His opponents are not arguing whether it's a good policy to allow people to have sex in public bathrooms.  And none of them are really even defending the decision to place porn in a public library.  Instead, they are simply trying to demonize the mayor, and shut him up.  Even a company that helps to plan reunions for African-American families has "voiced concern about whether the mayor was sending a message of intolerance."  I guess part of the reunion experience is for your kids to take a break from volleyball and watermelon to use the restroom, only to find people having sex there.

And now, his activists have taken the next step in silencing Mayor Naugle... the unprecedented action of removing him from the county tourism board.  I guess condemning this behavior is only ok if it's a Republican Senator trying to engage in it...
