Parents Losing Rights in Maine

In another arrogant attempt by government to tell its citizens that politicians can raise your children better than parents can, a school board in Maine is considering a resolution that would allow the school to prescribe birth control pills to middle school students... grades 6-8 (ages 11-14)... WITHOUT PARENTAL NOTIFICATION!  That's asinine!

Let's let parents teach values to their own children and deal with the consequences.  If you raise promiscuous kids, you get to raise your grandchildren.  Most parents take the responsibility of raising moral children seriously, and it's not the right of government to usurp that from everyone because 4% of district parents don't.  And guess what... if you offer free birth control to all kids, who don't have to inform their parents, more than 4% will be doing it in the future.

Pills don't provide any protection against STD's either.  What are you going to do when there's an outbreak of Chlamidya or even AIDS?  Are you going to treat the kids for a serious disease without their parents' knowledge?

The decisions we make in life are not void consequences... To teach kids that they are free from accountability, even to their own parents, is arrogant and irresponsible.  Hopefully more parents in Maine are considering private schools or home school.
