In what can only be described as the most despicable article I've read in a long time, another Liberal expresses his hatred for U.S. troops, but this loon even goes so far as to express his desire to see our men and women killed by Iraqi insurgents. The premise for the ludicrous article, written by Kyle Szarzynski, is the "Lancet Report," which claims that 654,965 Iraqi civilians have been killed between March 2003 and July 2006. The report has since been debunked by Professor Michael Spagat of the University of London, who not only revealed the faulty methods used, but also the Leftist bias of the report's authors (see "Conflict Mortality Surveys" link below).
Szarzynski asserts that that, "figure is important because it demonstrates that proportionately the U.S. military has murdered far more Iraqis than Saddam Hussein ever did." Now, how he arrives at the "proportionately more" conclusions is beyond me, since Saddam Hussein was one man and there have been several hundred thousand U.S. troops who have walked the streets of Iraq. Do the math. Let's conservatively estimate that 300,000 soldiers have rotated through Iraq. Even if the U.S. military has killed 650,000 civilians, that's a little more than two per person. Even the idiots who wrote the Lancet propaganda would probably agree that Saddam was responsible for more than two civilian deaths.
But that leads me right to the most overt lie of the ridiculous rant. Szarzynski is claiming that all 654,965 dead civilians were "murdered" by the "American military." Right... because the one thing we know for certain about Iraq is that U.S. service men and women have actually been the ones to pack cars, trucks, and cement trucks full of explosives, drive them into busy markets, and detonate themselves for the promise of virgins in the afterlife.
All this is supposed to prove his ultimate point that, "The Iraqi insurgency is an organic movement, born out of the rape and brutalization of its country by an imperialist power," which thus gives them the right to blow up American soldiers... Oh, and of course any civilians that they can massacre as well. Just charge 'em to the imperialists' tab.
