My Indiana and North Carolina Predictions

Zogby is showing Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) with a 14-point lead over rival Sen. HIllary Clinton (D-NY) in today's North Carolina presidential primary and with much slimmer (and surprising) two-point lead over her in Indiana.  Pollsters are never able to account for the Bradley Effect though, which is why I believe he'll only win N.C. by about nine points (state demographics strongly favor him) and she'll probably win Indiana by seven.

This race has been so volatile (not to mention dirty) though that it's difficult to have an clue as to what will really happen...

Obama: The Ayers Connection

When Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) questions the probable Democrat nominee Sen. Barack Obama's connections to an unrepentant domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers, his campaign only responds by attacking McCain for "smear politics," but does not refute the Illinois Senator's friendliness with Ayers.  He then went on to smear McCain for his positions on the economy and Iraq.  (Ironic?)

In fact, the only defense offered by Sen. Obama regarding his relationship with Ayers was during the recent debate in Pennsylvania:

“The fact is, is that I'm also friendly with Tom Coburn, one of the most conservative Republicans in the United States Senate, who during his campaign once said that it might be appropriate to apply the death penalty to those who carried out abortions. Do I need to apologize for Mr. Coburn's statements? Because I certainly don't agree with those either.”

I wonder if the American people will find Sen. Obama's association with a sitting United States Senator just as palatable as his friendship with Ayers; a man who told the New York Times in 2001, regarding his terrorist activities during the 1970's and '80's which took the lives of numerous police officers and civilians, "I don't regret setting bombs.  I feel we didn't do enough."

I'd say Obama needs to work on his moral equivalents.  Ayers is not a guy who simply made a controversial statement.  In fact, we're not concerned about his rhetoric at all!  Ayers blew up cops!

And Obama holds a fund raiser in his home?

Only 29% Favor Universal Healthcare

Why are the Dems so intent on pushing nationalized healthcare when so few Americans want it?

Twenty-nine percent (29%) of American adults favor a national health insurance program overseen by the Federal Government. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 39% oppose such a government-led initiative while 31% are not sure.

The survey also found that 46% believe the quality of care would decrease under a national health insurance program while 16% believe that quality would increase. Twenty percent (20%) say the quality of care would remain about the same while 18% are not sure.

At the same time, 42% believe the cost of health care would increase while 25% would expect prices to go down.

While opposing a national program overseen by the federal government, Americans support requiring companies to provide health insurance for their employees. Sixty-three percent (63%) favor such a requirement while 24% are opposed.

Americans realize that private-sector healthcare provided by their employers will be of abundantly-higher quality than what we'll receive when politicians and bureaucrats take over...

The Dems' Dilemma

As Sens. Clinton (D-NY) and Obama (D-Ill) continue their fight to the death for their party's nomination, a deep and nearly irreconcilable rift continues to be revealed.  Ironically, for the party of "tolerance" and "political correctness," that rift appears to be falling mostly along age, gender, and racial lines.

So potentially disastrous are the ramifications of this rift that some superdelegates (party elites who will have the final say in who the nominee will be) are even floating a compromise scenario that would put a white man, none other than alarmist-in-chief Al Gore, at the top of their ticket if the nomination is decided by a brokered convention.  I don't think it could ever fly, but the irony is too thick to leave without comment.

The only question is whether Gore would protest his own nomination, since he didn't win the popular vote in the primaries.

Obama Hiding His Muslim Heritage?

Does this seem strange to anyone else?  April 30, 2007, Barack Obama's Kenyan grandmother, Sarah Hussein Obama, appeared in a New York Times article that included the following caption:

Sarah Hussein Obama of Kenya, Barack Obama's stepgrandmother (sic), is a lifelong Muslim.  "I'm a strong believer of the Islamic faith," she says.

However, the USA Today ran a story about her on Wednesday with this line:

"In the world of today, children have different religions from their parents," [Sarah Hussein Obama] said. She, too, is a Christian.

Is it sloppy reporting by the USA Today or an intentional attempt by Obama and his Media to cover up his Muslim heritage?  It's not a big deal to me that many of his family members are Muslim, especially his "stepgrandmother."  I just don't know why they feel the need to hide it...

Hillary Stays Alive

With big wins in the Ohio and Rhode Island primaries last night, along with a narrow victory in Texas' quirky primary, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) has managed to keep her bid to be the Democrat's presidential nominee alive and also raised serious doubts about the ability of inexperienced rival Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill) to put away an opponent.  He's kind of like a football team that can drive the ball down the field, but has to settle for a field goal rather than a touchdown.

He still has a formidable lead in delegates, but the momentum seems to be shifting back in the direction of the former First Lady.  The battle now moves to Pennsylvania, which is the last delegate-rich state that is yet to vote.

It's shaping up to be quite a primary...
