Now that Super Tuesday is behind us, and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) looks more and more likely to be the eventual Republican nominee, pressure is rising for the McCain camp to consider a solidly Conservative running mate to balance the ticket.
Huckabee does not foot the bill as he is not someone who is considered a pure conservative, though he may have enough delegates to secure a nice cabinet post come Convention time (maybe Secretary of Health and Human Services or even Secretary of Housing and Urban Development).
Romney's a fake, and his back and forth jabs with McCain will not soon be forgotten. I wouldn't expect any concessions from McCain at Convention. Besides, he's a pretty recent convert to the Conservative cause anyway.
Whiles some names are being bounced around, such as Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif) and Governor Mark Sanford (R-SC), I think the most beneficial Conservative name to add to a McCain ticket would be former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA).
Gingrich is not currenly planning to endorse McCain, but he's been pretty friendly with him the last few days... we'll see if anything comes of my little theory here.
