The Daily Mail reports that 11-year-old Briton Jerome Bartens was diagnosed deaf in the right ear at age two, but...
...when playing pool with his friends in a church hall Jerome felt a sudden pop. He put his finger in his ear and there was the tip of a cotton wool bud which had been wedged there for almost 10 years.
And his hearing immediately returned! Despite examinations by doctors and hearing specialists, they failed to notice the centimeter-long obstruction and the boy spent his entire childhood deaf in the right ear.
Just another example of the high-quality care one can expect in a universal healthcare system.
