Trust in the electoral process is an essential bedrock of our Constitutional republic. Voter fraud, perhaps more than anything else, serves to undermine confidence in our unique system. Common sense dictates that the easiest way to prevent fraud is to present a photo ID when going to cast your vote. You're required to have one when you drive, write a check, or board an airplane, and for the same reason. In addition, a proper ID is so easy and inexpensive to attain that a law requiring one in order to vote does not discriminate against any responsible person.
It is the opinion of this writer that only politicians who have something to gain from a stacked ballot box would oppose this common-sense protection of our Democracy.
