A Minnesota judge today rejected a request by Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) to withdraw his guilty plea regarding his alleged attempt to solicit gay sex in an airport bathroom. Judge Charles Porter wrote: "Because the defendant's plea was accurate, voluntary, and intelligent, and because the conviction is supported by the evidence...the defendant's motion to withdraw his guilty plea is denied."
Despite the judge's decision, and Craig's previous statement that he would resign at the end of September, Sen. Craig has today vowed that he will serve the remainder of his term in the Senate.
Senator, you're guilty! Quit this ridiculous charade to "clear your name." You've already ruined it, not to mention the immeasurable damage you've done to the pro-family movement. Even if you can legally wiggle your way out of a guilty plea, Americans are not going to conclude, "Oh, I guess he didn't try to have sex with a stranger in a public restroom." You're an embarrassment to your state, your party, and conservatives everywhere.
So shut up, resign, and get out of the news.
