Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...
Well I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the Evesham (PA) school board voted last night to stop showing an "educational" video which depicts "families headed by same-sex couples." The bad news is that someone thought it was a good idea to show this video to third graders in the first place! In addition, the school board actually voted against a committee of "scholars and educators" who recommended keeping the video, but showing it to fourth graders instead.
I wonder if this is what Senator Obama had in mind when he said that sex education for kindergarteners is "the right thing to do," as long as it's "age appropriate." And remember, he concluded that what is "age appropriate" would be "determined on a case by case basis by local communities and local school boards." Well, the Evesham school board got it right, but I don't have the same faith that all other ones will as well. By the way, what's wrong with simply teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic in public schools these days?
Now, of course, homosexual activists are not going to let their propaganda be removed from gradeschool classrooms by elected officials without a court fight. They just need one judge willing to ignore the will of the people and usurp the power of elected officials, and overrule the vote. One such activist, Steven Goldstein said, "It's very likely that we in the civil rights community wil take legal action to have the committee's recommendation to show this film enforced. We believe the board's actions are illegal." If it wasn't so sad, it would almost be funny.
Our self-proclaimed "civil rights" activist is claiming that an unelected committee's decision is binding, but a school board's vote on what curriculum should be taught in their district is "illegal?"
Perhaps Goldstein is the one who needs an education... in government.
