Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...
The Times Online (UK) is reporting today that a Guantanamo Bay detainee is fighting to stay at the "infamous" detention facility, arguing that he fears he would be "tortured or killed" if the U.S. returns him to his native Algeria. Hmmm... he wants to stay at Gitmo because he doesn't want to be tortured.
But wait, I thought Liberals want to close Gitmo because the sadistic U.S. soldiers down there are always torturing and severely mistreating the inmates. I've even included a full statement from Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), regarding our treatment of detainees. The highlight is when Durbin compared the actions of American soldiers to techniques used by, "Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some other mad regime- Pol Pot or others- that had no concern for human beings."
It would seem that that's not actually the case though. Otherwise why would a prisoner, fearing torture and death, legally fight to stay at Guantanamo Bay? I think you would have been hard pressed to find any prisoner of one of those "mad regimes" fighting to keep his spot in a concentration camp or gulag.
