Deviants Act on Their Perversions?

Disclaimer: I'm just an average guy...

Here's what I think anyway...
Sexual deviants act on their perversions.  If they didn't act, they wouldn't be deviants.  Even the New York Times can get that much right.  And, giving some credit where some credit is due, I applaud the NYT for publishing a story today about a recent study by the Federal Bureau of Prisons that is being suppressed from publication.

The Study:  The research was conducted by psychologists at the Federal Bureau of Prisons.  They interviewed 155 anonymous men who are serving prison sentences for possession and distribution of child pornography, and found that a staggering 85% of the men said that they had committed sexual offenses against minors ranging from "inappropriate touching to rape."

Now, the story is about sex offenders, and so of course the NYT had to pay homage at the altar of civil liberties.  It also included standard interviews from some of the most despicable people in the world, including Jill S. Levenson, who is head of the "ethics committee" for the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.  I found myself wondering which was more laughable...  The fact that the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers has an "ethics committee," or that the head that committee is also a college professor (Lynn University in Florida).  But I digress...

There were some shades of truth though, which is rare, but always refreshing when you're reading the New York Times.  The article quoted a convicted pedophile (not part of the study) who is currently serving a 14-year sentence in a federal prison in Canada.  The anonymous inmate admitted that looking at pornographic images of children gave him "no release" from his perverse desires.  In fact just the opposite was true.  "...[T]here is no way I can look at a picture of a child on a video screen and not get turned on by that and want to do something about it.  I knew that in my mind.  I knew that in my heart.  I didn't want it to happen, but it was going to happen."

Ultimately, this is not news... it's common sense.  Sexual deviants act on their perversions.  This study would help to shine light on that fact, except it is still suppressed from publication.  The Times wants it so that it can be used to find better ways to "treat" these individuals.

I, on the other hand, would like us to declare all out war on the production and distribution of these images, in all their forms, and to campaign against soft sentences for anyone who would dare steal the innocence of a child.
